Memory Prices Remain Under Pressure in 2026
As the market enters the second half of 2026, memory and storage costs remain an important factor for POS terminal, Mini PC and industrial hardware procurement.
According to TrendForce, conventional DRAM contract prices were forecast to increase by approximately 13–18% quarter-on-quarter in Q3 2026, while NAND Flash contract prices were expected to rise by around 10–15%.
Although the pace of price increases is expected to moderate as consumer demand weakens, current supply conditions suggest that a significant decline in memory prices may still be difficult in the short term.
For buyers planning POS hardware projects in Q4, this means component prices should continue to be monitored carefully.
DDR3 and DDR4 Supply Deserves Particular Attention
One of the most important changes in the memory market is the reallocation of production capacity.
Major DRAM manufacturers continue to prioritize higher-value products used in AI servers, including HBM and server DRAM. As more production resources move toward these applications, supply for mature memory products has become increasingly constrained.
This trend is especially relevant for POS and industrial hardware, where DDR3 and DDR4 are still widely used because of their stability, compatibility and cost efficiency.
TrendForce reported that limited DDR4 availability has caused some buyers to move toward older-generation memory, increasing demand for DDR3 and supporting higher DDR3 prices.
By late July, inquiries for DDR3, DDR4 and DDR5 were still active in the spot market, while mainstream DDR4 spot prices continued to edge higher.
Therefore, older-generation memory should not automatically be expected to become cheaper simply because it is mature technology. Reduced production capacity can sometimes create the opposite effect.
What About 128GB, 256GB and 512GB SSDs?
The outlook for NAND Flash and consumer SSDs is slightly different.
Demand for enterprise SSDs continues to benefit from AI infrastructure and data-center investment. At the same time, weaker demand from PCs and smartphones is limiting how quickly consumer NAND and SSD prices can rise.
As a result, the consumer SSD market may increasingly move toward a high-price plateau rather than another sharp price surge.
For commonly used POS storage configurations such as:
128GB M.2 SSD
256GB M.2 SSD
512GB M.2 SSD
mSATA SSD
buyers may see relatively stable periods, but procurement costs can still change depending on NAND supply, controller availability, brand and order volume.
Upstream Suppliers Are Also Signaling Possible Q4 Adjustments
In addition to public market research, some of our upstream memory and SSD suppliers have recently indicated that component costs may be adjusted again during the fourth quarter.
This does not mean that every DDR3 module or SSD will increase in price at the same time.
However, when both industry data and direct supply-chain feedback point to continued cost uncertainty, buyers planning large or repeated orders may benefit from confirming configurations and quantities earlier.
What Does This Mean for POS Hardware Procurement?
For POS hardware buyers, we recommend paying particular attention to three areas:
1. Confirm memory and storage specifications early
If a project already has a confirmed requirement such as DDR3 8GB, DDR4 8GB or a specific SSD capacity, early confirmation can reduce the risk of unexpected component substitutions later.
2. Check quotation validity
Because memory prices remain volatile, quotations based on current component costs may not remain valid for several months.
For Q4 projects, it is advisable to confirm component pricing again before placing the final order.
3. Consider supply stability, not only unit price
For commercial POS deployments, stable component availability can be more important than achieving the lowest possible short-term price.
Changing memory or SSD models frequently may require additional compatibility testing and can complicate future maintenance.

Outlook for Q4 2026
Based on current market information, the most likely Q4 scenario is not necessarily another dramatic across-the-board increase.
Instead, the market may show different trends by product:
DDR3: Supply remains relatively tight, with continued price risk.
DDR4: Supply pressure remains significant as production capacity shifts toward higher-value applications.
DDR5: Demand remains supported by servers and AI applications, although price increases may gradually moderate.
Consumer SSDs: Prices may remain at elevated levels, with smaller increases or periods of stabilization.
Industrial SLC/MLC NAND: Supply constraints remain considerably stronger than in mainstream consumer TLC products.
For POS hardware buyers, the key message is simple: Q4 component costs remain uncertain, and a substantial return to the low memory and SSD prices seen in previous cycles should not yet be assumed.
Companies with confirmed Q4 POS projects may therefore consider locking in specifications and reviewing component costs before finalizing their purchasing schedule.
